Breaking Barriers with Mobility
- Wheelchairs: For people with disabilities who live below the poverty line, the inability to move freely can prove an insurmountable barrier to escaping the cycle of poverty and hunger. A wheelchair is more than just a mobility device – it’s a gateway to exercising fundamental human rights and inclusion in society. The program provides both manual and electric wheelchairs tailored to terrain challenges and individual disabilities.Β
- Comprehensive Rehabilitation Centers: HHRD’s seven centers across Pakistan and Afghanistan house teams of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, and psychologists under one roof. Technicians craft artificial limbs by hand, fitting each device to individual measurements. The Mansehra center, established in response to the 2005 earthquake, now trains new therapists while treating patients. Centers adapt treatments to local needsβfrom sports injuries to war traumaβrestoring function one session at a time.
