FAQ

As a leader to empower lives, creating opportunities and strengthen the bond of humanity.

How much does it cost to sponsor a child?

The cost of 1:1 sponsorship is $2/day, which is $60/month and $720/year.

HHRD’s Children with Disabilities Sponsorship Program provides support for 6 major
components. While their implementation varies by region, each child will receive support in
each of these areas.
1. Rehabilitation Services – include assistive devices and mobility aids, transportation to and
from HHRD rehabilitation centers, physical, occupational, Speech and psychotherapy as
evaluated and prescribed by doctors.
2. Food & Subsistence – Food distributions, clothing and monetary support.
3. Educational Support is tailored to the functional capacities and developmental needs
of each child with disability. For children enrolled in formal education settings—either
mainstream or special needs institutions—support includes tuition support, provision of
educational materials, school uniforms, and shoes. For those with limited access to formal
schooling, alternative learning pathways are provided through basic literacy and vocational
training programs. In cases of severe disability, interventions prioritize training in activities
of daily living (ADLs) to enhance self-care, autonomy, and overall quality of life.
4. Health – Annual medical checkups, healthcare assistance through referrals to specialists,
and hygiene kits.
5. Social Upliftment – extracurricular activities to foster community and combat isolation.
6. Child Protection Rights – Child protection efforts include regular follow-up visits with children
and their families at both home and school environments to ensure safe, abuse-free, and
nurturing conditions. Caregiver training workshops are conducted to build awareness
around the rights of children with disabilities and promote positive caregiving practices.
Community sensitization initiatives—such as awareness walks, designated sensitization days,
and educational workshops—are organized to foster inclusive attitudes, reduce stigma, and
strengthen community support for children with disabilities and their families.

We recommend that a donor sponsors a child for at least a year. However, one can continue to
sponsor the child until the age of 18, which is when the child graduates from the program.

If you are unable to maintain $60 per month, you are welcome to donate any amount to
the general children with disabilities support fund. The general children with disabilities
support fund is utilized to provide assistance to children who are currently registered with
Helping Hand but do not have a dedicated donor along with starting up the children with
disability program in new areas around the world. General support is a collective pool of
funds that HHRD taps into when financial resources are required for the Children With
Disabilities Program.

Once your sponsorship donation is settled in our system, we will make the profile available
to you through an email notification. You will be required to log into your online account to
view the child’s profile. A medical health assessment report is made available to the donors
within the given year of the sponsorship. A rehabilitation progress report is shared with the
donor once every 2 years. An email notification will go out to the donor’s email when a new
report is uploaded online.

• Access HHRD.org and click login at top right of the page
• On the Donor Dashboard you should be able to view your membership duration,
donation history, and donor information. Here is where you will be able to update your
account if there has been any change in your contact information.
• The sponsorships you are supporting are available on the blue menu on the left Under
“My Sponsorships”:
• View sponsored children’s information
• Access photos
• Check family details
• Review health reports
• Monitor sponsorship beginning and end dates

For specific one-to-one sponsorship, please donate the specified $2 a day or $720/year. For
the general children with disability support fund, HHRD will accept any amount that you
would like to donate.

To be part of the program, the child has to be below the age of 18 and a resident of the local
district. The annual household income of the beneficiary should be below the poverty line as
defined by the country of residence. The child is required to have at least one or more of the
four types of disabilities, which include physical, intellectual, visual, or hearing impairments.

HHRD will be happy to send out any letters or cards that you wish to send to your
sponsored child. Since these children generally struggle with communication issues, we
might not be able to provide the child’s response to you. If you are visiting the country your
sponsored child is from, HHRD can assist with your visit with the child and the family in a
safe space upon request and completion of the necessary documentation.

If we haven’t heard back from you within a 30-day period from when the sponsorship has
expired, the Child profile will be removed from your account and placed back on the website
as an available sponsorship.

You can cancel your recurring donation if you’d like. Please call us at 313-279-5378 Option 2,
Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST.
